Horses

The small horses originally started as maquettes for the Saint Edward piece but developed into pieces in their own right. Their shape aims to convey the strength, beauty and dignity of the horse in a way that is self-controlled and yet intensely aware.

The small horses are made by press-moulding, while the large one is hand built using slabs of clay manipulated and shaped from the feet upwards. The tail is made as a separate element and fits a waiting hole in the horse’s body after firing.
